Tyrese Glasgow - Celebration of Life

Dear Parent / Carer

On Wednesday, 15th June one of our pupils Tyrese Glasgow tragically passed away. Having liaised closely with the family we are making plans for a Celebration of his Life on Friday, 8th July. To ensure that all pupils have a chance pay their last respects to Tyrese, a "guard of honour" is being organised along the High Street through Uppermill Village as Tyrese passes through with the cortege from Diggle. Each class of pupils will be escorted from 9:15am by two staff members to a position on the High Street. The "guard of honour" will run from Uppermill Museum all the way back to our school and line both sides of the High Street. We have worked alongside Saddleworth Police to ensure this mark of respect can take place safely. If you would prefer for your child not to be involved in this mark of respect, please contact your child’s Home School Leader and an alternative provision will be in place at school.

A service of thanksgiving will take place at St. James' Church, Huddersfield Road in Oldham at 10:00am. Members of the school choir and the school band will perform at the service which will be attended by Mr Milburn and other staff from school. We envisage that there will be a number of pupils that will want to attend and they will of course be granted permission do so by school. They must however be accompanied by their parent / carer. We are aware that for many children this will be the first such service some children will have attended and parents will need to be on hand to deal with any upset. Pupils attending the service do not need to attend school for the guard of honour. For all of those taking part in the morning activities we are asking that pupils wear their full and smartest uniform.

At 1:00pm the family have organised a fun day at St. Anne’s Rugby Club, Higginshaw Road, Oldham as a last party for Tyrese. Pupils wishing to attend this, should again be accompanied by a parent / carer. Alternatively, you may wish for your child to only attend the fun day at 1:00pm, we therefore ask that you collect your child from school at 12.30pm to escort them to St. Anne’s.

If you plan on taking your child to the service and / or the fun day please can you complete the consent slip below and return it to schools main reception by Wednesday 6th July so that we are aware of your child's absence on Friday 8th July.

If you have any queries beforehand please do not hesitate to contact me at school on [email protected]

Yours sincerely,

Mrs L Blezard-Downs
Home School Leader for Year 7
